Anthony Joshua's coach responds to Tyson Fury's "traitor" accusation

Ben Davison has played down Tyson Fury's 'traitor' jibe after the boxing trainer teamed up with Anthony Joshua for a second time.

Davison famously corned Fury for five fights - including his historic draw with Deontay Wilder back in 2018. He also played a vital role in helping the former two-time heavyweight world champion out of his drink-and-drug fuelled depression and back to the ring.

The pair split in December 2019 - just weeks before his rematch with Wilder. Nearly four years later, Davison joined forces with 'AJ' and helped him prepare for his win over Otto Wallin as well as his destructive knockout win over Francis Ngannou in March 2024.

However, they parted ways after Joshua was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in front of over 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. 'AJ' enlisted the help of Oleksandr Usyk's team for his two recent wins - back-to-back knockout victories over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga.

But the 37-year-old will now work alongside Davison for his all-British mega-fight with Fury - which is scheduled to take place on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. And prior to their dust-up, Fury rather playfully labelled Davison a "traitor" for reuniting with Joshua.

Reacting to the comments, Davison told Playbook Boxing, powered by Betway: "I think it's tongue-in-cheek. I'll be honest, I don't think he cares who works with AJ. But I think most importantly, I spent a lot of time with him and I think deep down he knows what type of person I am. I think he would say, "I know Ben's a good guy."

"He's smart enough to understand that boxing is a business and hopefully he feels the same way I do where it doesn't have an impact. Like I say, he could say whatever it is that he wanted to, call me this, call me that, whatever. It wouldn't change how things are because deep down I have the same, where I know he's a good guy.

"I never fell out with any ex-fighters that I've worked with, and it's important to me that stays the same. But at the same time, I've got a fantastic relationship and a lot of love for AJ as well."

Despite his loyalties lying with Joshua currently, Davison admits he still won't give the British brawler any tips on how to beat Fury in their heavyweight showdown. "Not really. I think Tyson's developed as a fighter," he said. "There's nothing that I would know about him that you couldn't see by watching one of his fights - in terms of boxing.

"Outside of that, I think that's something that AJ respects. I never go to AJ and talk to him about Tyson. I think that's something that he can see. There's a level of integrity there."
