Johnson posted a six-second clip on X showing him sitting in a car wearing an Ipswich Town Umbro shirt, accompanied simply by a football emoji and a tag to Ipswich Town.
The post, shared on Tuesday evening, had attracted almost 70,000 views by Wednesday morning, along with more than 600 likes and dozens of reposts.
One supporter, Jason Mann, responded: “Good lad. Never heard of him, but he’s alright by me.”
Johnson, 48, is a huge name in American football, particularly for his time as a wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Known by the nickname “Ochocinco”, Johnson was selected for the NFL’s Pro Bowl six times during his career.
He also played for the New England Patriots and featured in Super Bowl XLVI.
Johnson has previously demonstrated his love for football, including playing the sport himself, but his latest choice of shirt has endeared him to Blues supporters across the Atlantic.
