Allan Saint-Maximin has been talking about the managers he has played under, including at Newcastle United.

United one of the eleven clubs he has played for in his career, so far.

The enigmatic winger spent four seasons at St James’ Park, the longest he has ever been at a club.

His 11th and latest club is Charlotte FC who are currently fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference 2026 table after 33 matches.

Allan Saint-Maximin joined them in their mid-season transfer window in July, he has scored twice and got four assists in 14 matches for the team managed by Dean Smith (formerly Aston Villa manager), who have qualified for the MLS play-offs.

They have one match of the normal league season still to go but last weekend Allan Saint-Maximin was sent off at the end of Charlotte’s 4-0 victory over Orlando for grabbing his crotch in the direction of an opponent.

The former Newcastle United winger spent the second half of the 2025/26 season with Lens, they were desperate to keep Allan Saint-Maximim after he helped them win the French Cup and finish runners-up in Ligue 1. ASM scoring four goals and providing three assists in 13 appearances. However, the French winger opting to move to yet another new club for a new adventure with Charlotte FC.

In an interview with The Athletic, Allan Saint-Maximin saying he had offers to leave Newcastle United but turned them down because he believed he owed NUFC commitment: “They gave me everything. It’s like with your kids. You prepare everything for them. You take the poo, you clean, you do every single thing you can. And when they get to the top, they look at you like, ‘Thanks, Dad, now you can go away, I will live my life’. No, you cannot betray like this. They gave me everything and it was very important to be loyal.”

Allan Saint-Maximin says he enjoyed playing under Eddie Howe at Newcastle United: “So many good players came, so we started to play better, that’s why we reached the Champions League.”

However, ASM naming the best ever manager he has played under across his entire career.

Allan Saint-Maximin naming Steve Bruce as his favourite manager across his whole career, as he gave him the trust and freedom to express himself: “Incredible manager but we didn’t have an unbelievable squad.”

Allan Saint-Maximin though naming the Newcastle United fans as his absolute favourite, giving him his greatest memories: “I will never, ever forget them.”

Allan Saint-Maximin picks the 3-3 draw with Manchester City on 21 August 2022 as his top standout NUFC match memory: “When you play against the top team, you see Guardiola down the line and you get the ball and he puts his hand on his head to be like, ‘What is this player? He’s a nightmare’. You feel something’s different. To feel the voice of the crowd when you get the ball, you feel them pushing you, you feel like you are flying. It’s something special.”

The Athletic also reporting: Another notable moment was his winning goal against Oxford United in an FA Cup fourth-round replay and the ‘penicopter’ incident that followed. As Saint-Maximin celebrated during the match shown live on BBC One, a Newcastle supporter was seen exposing himself in the away end. The incident went viral and prompted a police investigation. “It was crazy,” he says. “This was unbelievable, it was a cup game, against a team in League One. Those are the things that help you understand Newcastle.”

In a previous interview in September with BBC Sport, Allan Saint-Maximin said that he hoped Matthias Jaissle and his backroom staff would “have the best possible time” with Newcastle United, just as he did.

Matthias Jaissle was appointed by Al-Ahli on 29 July 2023, only 24 hours after ASM had signed for them.

The newly promoted club then saw the new manager and winger help guide them to third place in the Saudi Pro league, in the only season Matthias Jaissle and Allan Saint-Maximin spent together.
