FA Vase second round round-up: Step 6 Hythe Town win at SE Dons, Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells, Larkfield & New Hythe reach the third round

Unbeaten Hythe Town produced a standout result in the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

Andy Crush’s men scored twice in the first 11 minutes to win at Southern Counties East Premier Division SE Dons.

Josh Byford opened the scoring in the first minute and then doubled his tally to send Hythe through to Monday’s draw.

The other all-SCEFL tie saw Phoenix Sports stuff Faversham Strike Force 6-1. Harry Taylor had cancelled out Khayrie Harris’ early opener for the home side but Phoenix responded with Harris going on to complete his hat-trick, Jamarie Brissett adding a brace and Isaac Hadlow also on target.

Rusthall survived a second-half comeback from visitors Haywards Heath before eventually going through 4-2.

Everything seemed rosy as Rusthall raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening half-hour through Thompson Adeyemi and Lekan Osideko’s double.

But Ryan Warwick and Mark Goldson scored in the space of six second-half minutes to make it 3-2 before Rajan Sahni came off the bench to score Rusthall’s fourth with eight minutes left.

Former FA Vase finalists Tunbridge Wells also progressed following a 3-2 home win over Ash United.

Lynos Rwodzi put Wells ahead on 10 minutes but Tayo Adekoya levelled just before the break.

Kieran James restored Wells’ advantage with 20 minutes to go and Jack Gallagher made it 3-1 before the visitors replied in stoppage time through Minaz Chowdury.

A stoppage-time goal from Festos Kamara was enough for Fisher to progress, 1-0 at home to AFC Vardenians. But Snodland were knocked out 1-0 at Harefield United, the winner coming from Jake Sobalak on 15 minutes.

Penalties were needed as Larkfield & New Hythe reached the third round for only the second time in their history.

Andrew Mensah’s second-half equaliser saw them draw 1-1 at home to East Grinstead before winning the shoot-out 4-2.

AFC Greenwich Borough are the seventh SCEFL team in the third round following their 5-1 victory at Pagham, Joshua Shonibare scoring a hat-trick for the visitors with Bradley Ryan and Olu Obilana also on target.

In league action, bottom side Erith & Belvedere won for the first time since late August as Tom Borders’ second-half goal was enough at Beckenham.

Chislehurst Glebe beat Corinthian 3-0, Brandon Barrance scoring twice, while Petts Wood & Holmesdale overcame Sutton Athletic 5-2.

In Division 1, Lordswood closed the gap on leaders Rochester to three points after a second-half spot-kick by Tyler Sterling secured a 1-0 win at SC Thamesmead.
