The 32-cap Ghana international was given the Community Impact Award at the ceremony in London on Tuesday. It “highlights the growing recognition of African athletes whose influence extends beyond their performances on the pitch”, according to 3news.
It was won by Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah last year.
Established in 2011 and organised in partnership with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), the BoA awards “celebrates African excellence and recognises individuals making a positive difference in their communities”.
The BoA website adds: “We see the visibility and reach of sport and music as key conduits for the amplification of the positive narrative.
“We firmly believe that harnessing the power of these two sectors could help shine a light on the other remarkable professional success stories Africa has to offer the world.
“Most importantly, the young people to whom the world belongs are better served when we use the popular conduits they relate to.”
Fatawu joined the Blues from Leicester City back in July for a fee that could reach £24m.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal, and has featured in all but one of Town’s eight Premier League games, missing the home match against Fulham after receiving a red card at Everton.
