Kim Hellberg described Tommy Conway’s performance as ‘electric’ as he helped Middlesbrough beat Bolton Wanderers 5-1.
Conway ran himself into the ground in the 69 minutes he was on the pitch, setting up Will Lankshear’s first goal and proving a constant threat throughout.
Once again playing from the left, he used his pace to get in behind and open up the Bolton defence time and again, as Boro put on a clinic in Lancashire.
The only shame for the 24-year-old is that he didn’t manage to add to his first goal of the season against Cardiff last time out - but even that was only because of a magnificent save from Bolton keeper Gavin Bazunu in the second half.
Reacting to his performance after, and how he proved key to the Boro game plan, Hellberg said: “I think Tommy Conway did his best game since coming back from his injury. He was electric and could have had two goals and two more assists. He was absolutely brilliant. That running ability.
“We worked so hard on running in behind them and taking the transitions, because we knew that was going to be a key against them. I think the players did that so well.
“They were absolutely brilliant. The goals, I think, were beautiful in terms of how we play, and how we want to play and how good we were around the box.
“We created so many chances. So many people contribute, even the five on from the bench, which also is a very positive thing.”
Conway wasn’t the only Boro star to come in for praise from the Boro boss, however, with Hellberg delighted with the performances of so many of his players.
He added: “Britts and Neto at full-back, Neto just keeps impressing me with how he's improving. And then we have Jeremy [Sarmiento] and Kyle [Joseph] and Max [Arfsten] coming in.
“You could see Aidan [Morris] moving and Seb [Berhalter] and Riley [McGree]. I was very happy with how we were fluid in going in behind them because that was the key thing. I'm very happy with that.”
