Frank Bruno has shared his thoughts on how a battle between George Foreman and Lennox Lewis would have played out.
Both fighters are widely regarded as two of the greatest heavyweights of all time, with Foreman first claiming world honours with a stunning second round knockout win over Joe Frazier back in January 1973.
After losing his heavyweight crown to Muhammad Ali in the ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ the following year, Foreman would go on to retire from the sport in 1977, before then returning a decade later.
His return eventually culminated in him becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion in history when at the age of 45 he knocked out Michael Moorer to earn the WBA and IBF titles in November 1994.
Lewis also held world honours around that time, becoming WBC champion before losing the belt to Oliver McCall in September 1994, though he regained it with a win over McCall in their rematch just over two years later.
A victory over Evander Holyfield in 1999 then saw Lewis become undisputed champion, and he ended his career with wins over the likes of Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko.
Another man that Lewis once beat was Bruno, and while he may have come up short against his countryman, Bruno told Clubhouse Boxing that he would have backed Foreman to get the better of ‘The Lion’ had they both met in their prime.
While a fight between the two heavyweight legends would have been an interesting affair, it seems it was never realistically close to happening as Lewis once admitted that he didn’t ever want to take on Foreman due to seeing it as a lose-lose situation.
