John Lynch didn’t tip his hand about the San Francisco 49ers’ plans for the Nov. 10 trade deadline. He did point to a different kind of “acquisition” he expects soon, though.
Speaking with KNBR on Thursday, the 49ers’ general manager was asked how the offense looked without Mike Evans in the second half of Monday night’s win over the Commanders, and whether that affects his desire to add receivers. Lynch said the team has to play better, but he said he’s not worried about the offense.
“Offensively, I think we’ll be fine. We’ve got a ton of weapons,” Lynch said. “Post-bye we’re going to be getting some guys back, and we’ll continue to evaluate everything, but we’re going to get some things that feel like acquisitions with guys just getting healthy. And then we’ll continue to monitor the rest of the league. But right now we’re focused on what’s here, and we’ve got to go find a way to win a game in Atlanta.
The 49ers are 6-0, though, meaning they have the opening to be buyers if the team wants to do down that route. But, Lynch didn’t say whether San Francisco will make a deadline move. He did describe what he looks for in one, using defensive lineman Keion White, who came to the 49ers from the Patriots for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
“It wasn’t a very heralded move when we made it, but our scouts did a tremendous job unearthing," Lynch said. “[White] can rush outside, he can rush inside. We think he’s got untapped potential that in our scheme will pay off, and our schemes changed a little bit, but Keion’s the type of player that can adjust to multiple schemes, and his versatility allows him to really flourish. So that’s really what you want in a trade deadline acquisition. You want someone to be impactful and hopefully for a while.”
Several trade ideas have been put forth over the past few weeks, from receivers to edge rushers to interior linemen. And while the 49ers have never shied away from big trades, it doesn't sound like Lynch is waiting for one to manifest in the coming weeks.
