Cincinnati connections help Milwaukee Brewers win World Series
Milwaukee Brewers pitching coach Chris Hook (84) returns to the dugout after a mound visiting in the 10th inning of the MLB National League Central game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati on Monday, June 22, 2026. The Brewers won, 2-1, in 10 innings.

While Cincinnati baseball fans may be disappointed seeing a divisional rival lift the Commissioner's Trophy, several Cincinnati connections helped make the Milwaukee Brewers run happen.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-1, on Oct. 27, 2026 to win the MLB World Series in five games. It was the Brewers' first ever title, with three Cincinnati connections across the staff: Chris Hook, Ty Duvall, and Frank Neville.

Chris Hook, the Brewers pitching coach, is a Lloyd Memorial High School and Northern Kentucky University graduate. He led the 1989 Norse baseball team within one game of the College World Series before becoming the first NKU baseball player to reach the major leagues, playing with the San Francisco Giants from 1995 to 1996. As the Brewers' pitching coach, which he has been since 2019, he helped the team finish second in the league with a team ERA of 1.98.

Duvall, the bullpen catcher for Milwaukee, is a Lebanon High School graduate in the class of 2016. He led the Warriors to three consecutive conference titles and was named Ohio's top prospect in his recruiting class by Perfect Game. He went on to play college ball at Vanderbilt, winning the 2019 College World Series. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2019, but opted to return to the Commodores and sign with the Seattle Mariners in 2020. Duvall spent four seasons in the minor leagues, joining the Milwaukee coaching staff this season.

Neville is the Director of Player Health for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Northern Kentucky native graduated from Bellevue High School in 1984, going on to Western Kentucky University. Neville has been a part of the Brewers organization for 23 years, beginning as the Coordinator of Athletic Training in 2003. He was named the Director of Player Health in 2025, making this his second season in the role.
