Dave Challinor is gearing up for his first match in charge of Sheffield Wednesday after getting back in the saddle following his summer departure from Stockport County.

The Owls wasted no time in replacing Henrik Pedersen with Challinor identified as the number one by the club as they look to compete for honours in League One this season.

Wednesday face Oldham in the FA Cup this weekend, and it represents a very strong chance for Challinor to work on a few things and get a maiden win under his belt against a team in the league below

Dave Challinor’s first words to Sheffield Wednesday squad

Challinor wasted no time in getting to know his players, and the club’s media team has released a behind-the-scenes look at his first day in charge of the Owls.

The man who led Stockport to the League One Play-Off Final last season thinks he’s inherited a brilliant group of players and placed some immediate pressure on his stars after his arrival.

He said to the group: “Just first of all, brilliant to meet you, super excited to be standing in front of you. You’re an amazing group that can really go and achieve something.

Challinor will need a good start at Hillsborough, with the fans holding high expectations that the club can challenge for a play-off place this season.

The manager is a bit of a taskmaster and ultimately he feels like the right fit to get Wednesday flying up the table and back into the Championship once again.
