Todd suffered two badly broken legs after a crash on his debut at the Daytona 200 in the USA in March, ruling him out of the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT.
The Yorkshireman also missed the Southern 100 and won’t be able to race at this month’s Macau Grand Prix, where the entry criteria is based on competitors’ results at the NW200 or TT.
In September, the 31-year-old made his comeback at the Gold Cup meeting at Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough, but Todd revealed he is still “far from fully fit”.
The three-time TT winner’s priority is to continue working on his fitness over the winter before returning next year to challenge for more victories on the biggest stage, with Todd targeting wins in the Superbike and Senior races at the TT as his “ultimate goal”.
“It was not a good 2026 for me at all,” said Todd, speaking to MotoSprint at the EICMA show in Milan.
“It started from the first race I did at the Daytona 200, I had a really bad crash in the qualifying session and ended up breaking my legs really bad.
“I missed all season long and I’ve finally just got back on a bike a few weeks ago and started riding a little bit again, but I’m far from fully fit.
“Now I’m just trying to prepare for next season. I’m trying to get ready for 2027 and that’s what all the preparation going into to.
“For me to get back on a bike – I’ve been in a bad place mentally for six months without racing – so it’s the best feeling in the world. I don’t want to live a life without racing motorcycles so I’m super happy to be back riding bikes and I can’t wait to be back racing properly next year.
“I’m going to prepare properly in the off-season and do a lot of testing with my teammate Peter Hickman and come out swinging and be strong next year.”
For Todd, who co-owns the 8TEN Racing BMW team with Peter Hickman, the TT will be his main focus for 2027, but the Saltburn man is also looking forward to returning to the North West 200, Southern 100, Armoy and Macau Grand Prix, while he hinted at the possibility of competing in the Endurance World Championship.
“For me, winning the Superbike TT [is his ultimate goal] – there’s nothing that tops winning Superbike around the TT course,” Todd added.
“That is the best feeling in the world to do that because it’s so difficult. It requires so much work, so much preparation and when you can finally achieve this, it’s just such an incredible feeling.
“For sure I love racing in these other races – the wins at the North West 200, wins at the Macau Grand Prix, wins in the British championship on short circuits – but winning TT races is the dream.
“The goal for 2027 is to be back at full strength but the goal for me is to be winning TTs, that’s what I want more than anything, to win races around the Isle of Man TT. That Superbike race and the Senior TT are the races that I really want more than anything.
“Of course, North West 200, Macau Grand Prix, Southern 100, Armoy Road Races, plus some other goals that I’ve got to be on the grid as well – EWC maybe – and a few other things in the pipeline, but the ultimate goal for me still is winning more races at the Isle of Man.”
