India have revised their squads for the five-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting November 4. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out after failing to recover from a hamstring injury, while all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will feature only in the opening match before joining India A.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the changes on Friday. The decisions reflect India’s focus on managing player workloads and ensuring key players are prepared for the two-match Test series that follows the ODIs.
Prasidh will miss the entire ODI series against New Zealand as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury. The Karnataka fast bowler sustained the injury during the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, when he bowled only five overs before leaving the field.
The BCCI explained that the pacer requires more time before returning to competitive cricket, stating that he “will need additional time to build up the workload required to be ready for matches.”
Prasidh is expected to join India A for the third and final four-day match against New Zealand A, provided he clears the Return to Play (RTP) assessment. The match could help him regain competitive rhythm before the Test series begins on November 19.
Jammu and Kashmir pacer Aaqib Nabi has replaced Prasidh in the ODI squad, meanwhile Jasprit Bumrah has been rested to manage his workload ahead of the two-match Test series.
Nitish will remain with the senior team for the first ODI on November 4 in Auckland. After that match, the all-rounder will join India A for the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A, scheduled to begin on November 6.
The move is intended to provide Reddy with valuable red-ball practice before India’s Test assignments. With the first Test scheduled to begin in Wellington on November 19, the team management wants him to have an opportunity to prepare in the longer format.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj will join India A for the second four-day match against New Zealand A, while KL Rahul – who featured in the first four-day game in Lincoln – will miss the second encounter in Christchurch as he prepares to join the senior team for the first three ODIs.
Shubman Gill will captain India in the opening three ODIs, with Shreyas Iyer serving as vice-captain.
