Wroxham FC game abandoned after goalkeeper suffers injury

The incident took place during Wroxham FC’s clash against Felixstowe & Walton United in the Isthmian North Division.

Billy Johnson, Wroxham’s goalkeeper, suffered a heavy blow during the first half after a clash of heads.

Play was originally suspended while players and officials waited for an ambulance.

However, the game was abandoned at around 8.30pm.

It was Johnson’s first game after re-signing the day before.

He had been the women's goalkeeper coach at Ipswich Town.

A spokesman for Wroxham FC said: "Following the unfortunate incident in last night’s game, Wroxham FC can confirm that Billy Johnson remains in hospital, under observation.

"It is pleasing to know he is in good spirits.

"The club would like to thank Billy Dunton and the Felixstowe & Walton United medical staff who cared for Billy until the ambulance arrived.

"Also, thank you to everyone connected with Felixstowe, the match officials and the Isthmian League for their support and understanding."
