Quick Preview – Millers v Shrewsbury
Quick Preview – Millers v Shrewsbury

Rotherham United have their second home fixture in a row with Shrewsbury Town the visitors to the New York Stadium.

Millers

In their last game at home on Tuesday night the Millers went two-up in twelve minutes and looked to be coasting but Newport County came back to make it two-one before half-time and then scored a second later in the game to get a point. Before that the Millers had lost away at Fleetwood and lost at home to Gillingham four-one in a game they had again scored first.

Millers Head Coach Alex Bruce told Radio Sheffield that they have to build on the positives from Tuesday night, saying, ‘it’s another tough game against Shrewsbury who have had a decent start to the season. They are six points ahead of us and if we can beat them it will bridge that gap to three points which shows you how tight the table is. We’ve got to work out what system suits us and believe me, if we get a couple of results, we’ll stick to it.’

Injuries

It’s unlikely that the Millers will see Ossama Ashley and Ewan Otoo before Christmas while Fabio Tavares is out for the season. Marvin Kaleta has yet another hamstring problem and is probably going to be out for a month while there’s little news on Lenny Agbaire who is now ‘training on grass’. After limping off on Tuesday night Denzel Hall should be OK and more good news is that George Sebine is back with the Millers after having treatment at his parent club Huddersfield but when he will be back playing isn’t certain. There is also a couple of players with knocks who will be assessed today. Kane Richardson returned from his recent loan spell and could well make the squad.

Shrews

Shrewsbury come into this game just below the play-off places on goal difference. Their last away game was on Tuesday night at Crawley which saw five goals with the Shrews getting a late winner. Prior to that they beat Bristol Rovers at home but lost their previous home game to Exeter City – both one-nil.

Speaking to their Official Site, Shrewsbury’s Manager Gavin Cowan said, ‘We’ve got players out injured, players out suspended and some players who haven’t got a lot of experience in the squad. We’ve got a really tough game at Rotherham and it’s another challenge for us but we’ve got to go there and be the best versions of ourselves.

Injuries

After suffering a hamstring injury early in the season Jack Price is now running on grass but this game could be too early for him. The Shrews will be without Jay Turner-Cook and Isaac Fletcher who both saw straight red cards last weekend. Joe Gbode has been training but whether he plays or not will probably be a late decision.

James Oldham has the whistle for this game.
