King’s Lynn Town suffer humbling 5-0 defeat at Worksop

King’s Lynn Town’s run of good form came to a shuddering halt after a performance manager Paul Caddis described as "embarrassing".

The Linnets had been unbeaten in their previous five National League North games, conceding just once. But it all unravelled at Worksop, who were 2-0 up at the break and piled on the agony after it.

“It was embarrassing from after the first 10, 15 minutes,” Caddis told official club channels.

“I thought we got beat up, physically. That's not taking anything away from Worksop, they fully deserved everything they got. They were better than us in all departments, they were physically dominant.

“They picked up, I would say, almost every first contact. If not, then they definitely picked up the second contact.

“So a real humbling for us, a real humbling.”

Lynn’s current form had taken them to fourth in the table and Caddis admitted Tuesday night’s setback came as a shock to the system.

“It's something, I'll be honest, I didn't see coming,” he said. “We've conceded one goal in the last five games so to see that is something that I didn't, to be honest.

“But a real humbling, humbling performance, something that we have to correct really, really quickly.”

The rot didn’t take long to set in.

“For the first 10 minutes, I think they touched the ball very few, very few times,” said Caddis. “.We wanted to take the sting out of the game, which we did. The five goals come from our errors, but that's not taking away from Worksop.

“Again, I'll reiterate, they fully deserved it, they took advantage of it.

“The first one, we switch off at the back post. The second one, we don't go and meet the ball. The third one's a clear foul, which changes the sort of dynamic of the game. The fourth one was headed in from two yards out and the fifth one, we switch off at the back post.

“So it was a real, real poor, poor performance. But I am the leader of that group, so it's well and truly on me. The one thing I won't do is come out and absolutely batter individuals and stuff like that. We do that internally.

“We're disappointed as a group and we will do everything we possibly can to correct it. We'll be back in tomorrow morning and we'll go through the footage from start to finish.”
