Williams, 26, died in hospital on Monday following an incident in Milton Keynes, on the outskirts of London.
The midfielder sustained "serious injuries" and was rushed to hospital, where he tragically passed away just a few hours later.
Thames Valley Police have arrested two men on suspicion of murder, alongside a third on suspicion of assisting an offender.
"We are carrying out an extensive investigation to establish exactly what happened," the force confirmed in a statement.
Hendon FC released a statement mourning the player, highlighting that Williams quickly became "one of the most popular members of the dressing room" and had earned his midfield berth through relentless hard work.
Hendon's scheduled fixture against Woodford Town on Tuesday was subsequently postponed.
