Benjamin Nygren has said that Celtic fought to earn their three points in their 3-2 win over Besiktas.
The Swede played the full 90 minutes on a dramatic night in Glasgow as Celtic came from behind to register the first points on the board of their Europa League campaign.
Nygren was making his return to the starting XI after being a surprise omission from the weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Falkirk. He wasn’t on the scoresheet, but easily could’ve been, coming close on a couple of occasions.
Speaking after the match, he denied that the players were ‘nervous’ at the start of the game and praised their fight to secure a deserved victory.

Speaking to Matt Smith of TNT Sports, Nygren said when asked if the win was hard-fought: “Yeah, like you said, we fought very very hard today. In the end, I thought we earned the three points.
“Besiktas is a quality team, they have a lot of good players. I think we fought well during the whole game, and I think we created enough chances to score more goals than them.”
Asked if the players were nervous and tense before the game, Nygren firmly replied: “No, no. I guess some games are like that in the beginning of games, but in the end, it must’ve been a fun game to watch.
“You always try to find the chemistry when there’s a couple of new boys in the team, but I think all of them did very good and I’m very happy for the three points today.”
On the moment when he nearly got himself on the scoresheet, he said: “Yeah, nearly, but it’ll come. Today was a very important game. I think we now have it in our own hands. Four games to go, and now we need more wins.
“We go into every game to win it, and like I said, I think we earned it today against a good opponent. We just need to continue like this get more wins.”
