‘I’m Making The Call’ — Russell Wilson Pushes NFC Heavyweights To Rival Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs in Tussle For Jets’ Garrett Wilson

With the November 10 trade deadline approaching, NFL fans are anticipating the possibility of several blockbuster moves that could reshape the league. New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is one player whose potential departure could heavily impact the NFL scenario if a trade materializes.

Though the Jets have given no indication that they intend to trade Wilson this season, speculation surrounding his future continues to grow. Former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson has added fuel to the discussion by suggesting that the Kansas City Chiefs and an NFC team should pursue the Jets’ wide receiver.

Russell Wilson Doubles Down on Garrett Wilson Trade Idea with Two Potential Destinations

Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets in 2025, a deal that keeps him under contract through the 2030 season, but trade speculation continues. However, former Jets head coach Rex Ryan pushed back against the possibility that Wilson might want to leave the franchise.

Drawing on his limited time around the receiver, Ryan argued that Wilson was not the type of player to walk away from a challenge. Ryan believes Wilson is determined to help the Jets turn things around and eventually succeed with the team, though the timing of that turnaround remains uncertain.

While Ryan expects Wilson to remain committed to New York, Russell has advocated for a different outcome, saying that the wide receiver should pursue a move to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“If I’m Garrett Wilson… I’m going to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Russell said. “As you saw the other night on Sunday Night Football, they were struggling against the Seahawks, everybody was dropping the ball, Patrick Mahomes was frustrated. You don’t see Patrick Mahomes getting frustrated too often… They need a big-time receiver, and Garrett Wilson is that guy.”

This is not the first time Russell has proposed a potential move involving Garrett and Kansas City. In his appearance on “NFL on CBS” last week, Russell highlighted the Chiefs’ addition of running back Kenneth Walker III as a factor that has made their offense even more dangerous.

Russell explained that Walker’s presence has helped open up Kansas City’s play-action game, creating more opportunities for Patrick Mahomes to attack defenses downfield. He then pointed to Garrett as the type of receiver who could complement that offense, praising his route-running, intelligence, and ability to learn quickly as reasons he would fit well in Andy Reid’s scheme.

On Tuesday, Russell also identified the San Francisco 49ers as another potential destination for Garrett.

“The 49ers have a chance, and if I’m Garrett Wilson, I’m checking out the 49ers,” Russell continued. “If I am 49ers, Kyle Shanahan, I’m making the call. My guy Mike Evans is a little dinged; he can make plays down in the red zone this and that, but to find a player that can do every single route for you, that’s Garrett Wilson.”

The trade speculation comes amid a quiet stretch for Wilson, who struggled to make an impact during the Jets’ game against the Miami Dolphins. He finished the game with just two receptions for 26 yards on three targets.

Wilson has recorded only 70 receiving yards across his past two games and ranks No. 15 in the PFN WR Impact Rankings with an 81.0 grade
