Gloucestershire all-rounder Daaryoush “Daz” Ahmed has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2027 season.

Ahmed joined Gloucestershire in 2025, after being awarded a contract as part of the MCC’s commitment to give one of its players the opportunity to play for a first-class county.

Raised at Bristol’s Golden Hill Cricket Club, he progressed through the Gloucestershire Cricket Academy, the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) and the MCC Young Cricketers programme, and spent three seasons honing his skills with Gloucestershire’s Second XI.

Since making his professional debut, Daz has continued to develop across all formats, contributing with bat and ball. His 2026 season brought his highest first-class score to date: an unbeaten 90 from 117 balls, with six fours and three sixes, against Middlesex at Seat Unique Stadium in the Rothesay County Championship.

Coming in with Gloucestershire in difficulty, he shared a 144-run eighth-wicket partnership with Sai Kishore that rescued the innings from 128-7 and helped secure a draw. With the ball, he took six Championship wickets at an economy rate of 3.53.

In the Metro Bank One Day Cup, Ahmed struck his maiden List A half-century against Somerset at Taunton. He then produced a stand-out all-round display in front of a sell-out crowd at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival, against Northamptonshire as he took career-best List A figures of 4-56 and struck 48 from 38 balls, helping Gloucestershire to a three-wicket victory.

Ahmed said: “Gloucestershire is a club that means a lot to me and to my family. Growing up in Bristol and having played for the club from a young age, to continue my career here at Gloucestershire is brilliant news, and I’m looking forward to what the next year holds.”

“The club feels like home now and always has done, really, from the start. I’ve made some really good connections, both with players and staff and also with the supporters, so long may that continue.”

“I can’t forget my family either. My brother has been a huge help in my development, my dad still plays and has been representing England Over 60s, and my mum drove me to countless games and has always supported my dream of being a professional cricketer.

“There are plenty of aspects technically that I want to work on with the coaches this winter. It’s going to be a good opportunity to make some big steps and go into next season full of confidence.”

Gloucestershire’s director of cricket, Jon Lewis, said: “Daz is a Gloucestershire boy. He’s from just up the road in Golden Hill. He’s put his heart and soul into trying to improve as a cricketer over the past year, and we’ve seen glimpses of some really good performances from him across the season.

"I think the contract extension shows that we’re really keen on investing in him, and we feel there’s a future for him here at Gloucestershire.

“I’m really keen to try and put Gloucestershire boys out playing for Gloucestershire, and he’s one of those, so we want to keep investing in him and trying to make him a better cricketer.

“We hope he’s able to come back next season, improve, and show the consistency in his performances that we know his talent is capable of.”
