Marco Bezzecchi is gearing up for a relentless assault on the remaining MotoGP rounds, starting with Phillip Island, as he chases down substantial points to stay in the title hunt. After his triumphant win in Indonesia, which restored his confidence post-Sachsenring injury, Bezzecchi knows the clock is ticking and the margin for error is razor-thin.

The Italian rider, representing Aprilia, is laser-focused on securing maximum points at Phillip Island, a circuit where he has previously demonstrated strong pace. “I’m happy about the victory at Mandalika – it was my obsession since the Sachsenring crash and injury. I’m satisfied to prove to myself that I can still fight for wins. Now, I need to focus on this crucial weekend,” Bezzecchi stated.

Phillip Island’s notoriously unpredictable weather will pose a challenge, but Bezzecchi remains pragmatic: “The weather here changes often during the weekend. It’s the same for everyone, so we’ll adapt as quickly as possible. A wet race is always tough, but the dry conditions aren’t much easier. We’ll take it day by day and adjust accordingly.”

Amid persistent speculation about team orders within Aprilia, Bezzecchi was clear: “There were no team orders discussed. We had a normal meeting with Trackhouse staff over a few coffees – nothing formal. We all know their work is vital for us, and meeting to discuss situations is routine. At this moment, there’s nothing more.”

Bezzecchi also reflected on the special atmosphere at Phillip Island, highlighting the unique bond with his team and fans. “The track is beautiful, and the whole weekend is unique. We stay together with the teams near the beach, surrounded by stunning nature. I’ll miss the barbecues and the time spent with the crew when I no longer race here. The fans are incredibly kind.”

Physically, Bezzecchi is managing lingering issues from his injuries. “My shoulder is fine, but my knee isn’t fully recovered. After Mandalika, the knee swells with fluid every time I ride, so I returned home to rest. It’s better than right after the crash but still not perfect. I know I’ll have to live with it for a while until I stop racing.”

When asked about the ongoing questions on team orders, Bezzecchi remained unfazed: “I don’t think about it much. If and when we receive instructions, we’ll listen and decide accordingly. Nothing has been said yet.”

On the controversial topic of racing at Lusail amidst safety concerns, Bezzecchi voiced trust in the organisers: “We are riders and obviously want to race. If the organisers guarantee safety, I trust them. They wouldn’t send us there unless they were sure. If circumstances change for negative reasons, we’ll react. Liberty and Dorna are working hard to give MotoGP the best, a sport that deserves it.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s pivotal race, Bezzecchi sent his best wishes to teammate Kimi: “It will be a tough first match point. Many things need to align beyond just winning. I hope Kimi stays calm and focused, doing what he knows without taking crazy risks. If he wins, I’ll make sure to give him a great gift.”

As Bezzecchi prepares to unleash his full potential on one of MotoGP’s most iconic circuits, his determination to push every limit remains unshaken, with the championship dream still very much alive.
