It was another banner showing for the UCLA Bruins, with the team moving to 8-0 on the season with a 27-0 win over Nevada. The Nevada offense was dominated throughout by the UCLA defense, as the unit ruined the return to the Rose Bowl for QB Luke Duncan.
Duncan began the game with three interceptions in three drives before getting the quick hook for backup AJ Bianco. Bianco couldn’t do much against the UCLA defense either, with the Bruins having perhaps their best showing of the season. Here are five standout performers from Saturday’s Halloween win.
Aidan Gobaira continued his strong season on Saturday, picking up 1.5 sacks and three tackles for losses. Gobaira and the rest of the UCLA defense lived in the backfield against Nevada and Gobaira was a big part of that.
Gobaira wasn’t alone either. Sahir West was alongside him, adding 1.5 sacks, two tackles for losses with nine tackles. West entered the game with two sacks on the season but UCLA hopes this will be the beginning to a big second half of the season for West.
How good have the UCLA linebackers been this season? Sammy Omosigho may be getting the All-American hype but Jalen Woods has been nearly as productive this season. That continued on Saturday with three tackles as well as an interception off of Duncan.
Trent Hendrick got in the Halloween fun too, making eight tackles in his best showing as a Bruin.
It wasn’t an explosive day for the UCLA offense but Brian Rowe Jr. has been the most productive wide receiver for QB Ty Dieffenbach. Rowe had a major sideline catch at the end of the first half which gave the team a chance at three points.
Rowe’s game ended on the sideline as he was a bit shaken up but it doesn’t look to be too serious, with the broadcast speculating that he didn’t return due to the lopsided nature of the game.
Wayne Knight had a, by his standards, a quiet game but he was still impressive. Knight extended his record of consecutive games with a touchdown to eight.
The referees got the assist this week, with Knight appearing to be down short but still got granted the touchdown. Knight finished the game with 53 rushing yards (4.8 YPC) and 21 receiving yards.
