Carlisle United's Rob Elliot on approach at Solihull Moors

The Blues are preparing to face the National League’s second bottom side at Damson Park this weekend.

While Elliot’s 14th-placed side are targeting a third straight away win and a climb up, Chris Millington’s hosts are firmly at the wrong end of the table.

Elliot feels Solihull have a better squad than their league position currently indicates, and says Carlisle must not travel to the West Midlands with any complacency.

“I think statistically they shouldn't be anywhere near where they are,” said the Blues head coach.

“They’ve got some really good players – the likes of Jamie Andrews, whose long throw can be a real problem, just like Brad [Nicholson’s] for us.

“They’ve got Alex Whitmore, who’s very experienced and aggressive in both boxes, Joe Sbarra who’s been a top player at this level, Jacob Wakeling up front…

“They’ve got really good players in every position and for whatever reason it's not clicking.

“I can't comment on that because I'm not there but over time the manager's very experienced – he's been very successful at this level, finishing in the play-offs with Halifax.

“You can’t underestimate anyone. With Jacob Wakeling I don't think I would be very surprised if he's not at a higher level come the next year or two.

“The same with Scott High who's played up in the Championship [with Huddersfield Town]. Ryan Woods is there and has a lot of experience, although I'm not sure if he's injured at the moment because he’s been missing for the last couple of games.

“For whatever reason, it’s not clicking – maybe it's a change of style because they definitely try and keep the ball a lot more at the moment.

“But you’ve got to be really careful, because when it does click I do think they are way above [in potential] where they are currently in the league.

“We have to make sure that we don't give them any sniff of hope or anything where they can cause an upset and get themselves going, because it only takes one game to change things as we've seen here.”

Saturday’s game will be Carlisle’s second trip to Damson Park after last season’s 3-3 draw, in which Georgie Kelly scored a hat-trick for the Blues. Their other previous meeting with Solihull was a 1-1 draw at Brunton Park early last term.
