Chelsea made it back-to-back Premier League wins with a 2-0 victory over Everton last Saturday, as Pedro Neto scored both goals. The margin could have been greater, with Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and João Pedro all missing chances to add to the scoreline.
The result secured Chelsea’s first league clean sheet of the season and followed their emphatic 5-1 win over Bournemouth, taking Xabi Alonso’s side to 13 points from their opening seven matches.
Defender Malo Gusto is in contention to face Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow, but Pep Chavarría, Emmanuel Emegha, Jamie Gittens are all ruled out.
Emi Martinez is set to miss around a month after undergoing surgery on a fractured jaw sustained against Everton. Mike Penders, who replaced the Argentine during the match, is expected to step in between the posts for the foreseeable future.
On injuries
“Malo [Gusto] is fine. Pep [Chavarria] is still training a bit more, but he’s not going to make it.”
On Mike Penders
“He’s ready. He’s training well. He showed he has a good level in the cup games. In the few minutes against Everton, he showed his quality and personality. We are fully convinced Mike can play very well.
On Spurs
“I have seen a good team in bad results. We are expecting a tough game. We need to be prepared. Early days for everything.”
On Chelsea’s positive home record vs Spurs
“I knew about it. Tomorrow is another game. We need to prove again that we can continue that run, and knowing it’s a special game. We need to play with heart and head.”
Lucas Bergvall and Savinho remain unavailable after missing Tottenham’s Monday night win over Coventry and will also sit out this fixture. Dejan Kulusevski’s return is a boost for Spurs, although he is unlikely to be fit enough to start just yet.
Chelsea: Penders; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, Henderson, Caicedo, Hato; Palmer, Rogers; Joao Pedro
Tottenham: Kinsky; Van Hecke, Adarabioyo, Van de Ven, Robertson; Gray, Tonali; Kudus, Maddison, Marmoush; Solanke
Both sides head into tomorrow’s London derby on the back of victories, but Chelsea will be confident of extending their strong home record against Tottenham.
The Blues have scored at least twice in seven of their last 10 meetings with Spurs, and Xabi Alonso’s side will be looking to their attacking firepower to secure another victory and claim all three points.
