Morne Visser says they were on the same page as the UFC regarding Brendan Allen.
Earlier this week, talk of Dricus du Plessis moving up to light heavyweight emerged after Magomed Ankalaev claimed that there were talks about this matchup.
The former middleweight champion’s coach added more context, revealing that the UFC wanted du Plessis to be in a four-man tournament at 205-pounds.
‘Stillknocks’ and his team turned this opportunity down but did agree with the promotion on a different plan for him.
Dricus du Plessis’ coach has said that they hope to return next February or March and have asked the UFC for Nassourdine Imavov.
While the Frenchman has been campaigning for a title shot, there is another middleweight contender that has been very vocal about fighting ‘Stillknocks’.
Brendan Allen has continued to call out du Plessis for some time, though the former champion’s coach wasn’t impressed by the main event win that ‘All In’ recently produced at the Meta Apex.
“That fight to me, it was boring but I guess it was a very good fight for fighting in a warehouse,” Visser told Fight Forecast.
Despite this, he went on to add that he and du Plessis agreed with the UFC that this is a matchup that could be next for them.
“We’ve said yes and we’ve said yes. Let’s just get this guy behind us and I’ve said yes, Dricus said yes. We’ll fight him in our next fight,” he said. “We’ve said yes, let’s fight him… My opinion is yes, we’ve signed, or we want to sign. We want to fight him. That’s the deal between myself and Dricus and the UFC.”
Visser said that the UFC’s opinion on this fight may have changed following Allen’s last performance, with him sharing the latest update on their plans after reaching out to the promotion.
“I was told last night that the UFC first wants to see what’s happening with the [Anthony] Hernandez fight in November,” Visser revealed. “So, I guess, reading between the lines, they’re also not too keen after last weekend for Dricus to fight Brendan. That was before last weekend, that was the deal. Let’s fight Brendan Allen. Now, there’s something new on the table. Let’s see what is happening with Hernandez.”
Brendan Allen saw the comments that Morne Visser recently made about him after a clip from the interview was reposted on social media.
“Lmao, this dude gonna talk about resume, lol. Show me your UFC resume,” he wrote on X.
Allen went on to dispute Visser saying that he and Dricus du Plessis both agreed to fight ‘All In’, though it isn’t clear which timeframe is being referred to.
