The sponsorship marks another milestone for a team that has grown from humble beginnings into a thriving squad of 16 girls competing in the Mercian Junior Football League.
Founded in 2023 by manager Adam Tominski, the team began playing seven-a-side football before progressing to nine-a-side and eventually building a full 11-a-side squad.
Adam was inspired to establish the team by his daughter’s love of football and his determination to give other local girls the opportunity to enjoy the sport.
Now, three years later, the players are enjoying a promising season, having secured five victories from their opening six fixtures.
Adam said:
“For a grassroots club like ours, sponsorship like this means everything. Helping Hands’ sponsorship means the girls can play in brand new kit instead of having to rely on second-hand shirts and shorts.
“My daughter loves football and I wanted to help build a team where local girls her age could play together. Since then, it’s been brilliant to see the club grow to having a full squad of players, and everyone at Alcester Town is so grateful to Helping Hands for getting behind them.”
He stressed that encouraging more girls to take up football remains just as important as success on the pitch.
“We’ve started off well and the girls are excited to see how far they can go in the league this year. But whatever the outcome of the season, what’s most important to us is encouraging girls in the community to give football a try, make friends and have fun.”
Helping Hands Home Care was founded in Alcester by Mary Lee and still operates its Support Office in the town.
Toni Wood, from Helping Hands, said:
“Our Support Office is here in Alcester, so supporting the local community means a great deal to us.
“We’re delighted to help girls in Alcester feel proud when they play football for their local club. Seeing 16 keen young players step onto the pitch in a kit they can take pride in is wonderful, and we were only too happy to sponsor the team.”
The sponsorship comes as Alcester Town FC continues to expand opportunities for female footballers.
Originally formed in 1927, the club was re-established in its present form in 2007 and now operates more than 20 youth teams, as well as adult sides.
Its girls’ section includes Under-13, Under-14 and Under-16 teams, while this season has also seen the launch of the club’s first ladies’ team.
For Adam and his players, the hope is that their success will encourage even more local girls to pull on their football boots.
