All the key numbers from India’s stroke-filled display in the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington, led by Abhishek Sharma’s 113.

India’s ultra-rapid chase

40 - India gunned down the 199 run-target in mere 13.2 overs, and the margin of 40-balls remaining now stands the second-best for a successful 190-plus chase in all Men’s T20Is. Estonia, who had chased down 192 against Cyprus at Episkopi in 2024, take the pole position here, while the previous record among full-member teams also belonged to India. They had chased down 209 with 28 balls to spare against the same opponent in Raipur earlier this year.

5 overs - India got to 100 in just five overs, which is the least to the mark in Men’s T20Is, where data is available, bettering 5.2 overs taken by Romania against Serbia at Sofia in 2021.

Earlier, India got to 50 in just 2.2 overs, the joint-fastest in the format, alongside as many for Papua New Guinea against Vanuatu (Port Moresby, 2019) and for Romania against Serbia (Sofia, 2021).

26 - The Indian innings started with a 26-run over by Jacob Duffy, making it the joint-most expensive opening over of a T20I innings, alongside as many conceded by Malta’s Varun Thamotharam against Gibraltar in May 2023. The next most conceded by a bowler from a full-member side in the first over of an innings is 24 by Kemar Roach against Australia at Sydney in 2010.

118/0 - India also notched up a record powerplay total in Men’s T20Is, and became only the second team to breach the 100-run mark in the phase twice in the format, having also done that against Afghanistan in Delhi earlier this season.

A record-breaking outing for Abhishek

35 balls is all it took for Abhishek to complete his hundred, making it the joint third-fastest for a batter from full-member teams in T20Is. His 30-ball ton against Afghanistan in Delhi earlier this season tops this list.

4 - This was Abhishek’s fourth T20I ton, a number only exceeded by Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell (five each) and matched by Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt and Karanbir Singh.

11 - Overall, Abhishek now has 11 tons in T20s, and that took him past Virat Kohli, Quinton de Kock and David Warner who have 10 each. Only Chris Gayle (22) and Babar Azam (13) have got more.

1 - There have been 20 recorded instances of a batter getting to his fifty in 15 balls or fewer in T20Is. Abhishek is the only one to have done so twice. He got to the milestone in exactly 15 balls on Tuesday, making it the joint third-fastest T20I fifty in matches involving two full-member teams.

11 - Abhishek tonked 11 maximums during his 38-ball stay, the joint second-most for India in the format, alongside as many he had hit against Afghanistan in Delhi last month. He had also hit 13 against England at Wankhede in February 2025.

Only Austria’s Karanbir Singh has hit 10 or more sixes in a T20I innings more often than Abhishek (five times). Among the ones from full-member sides, Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch have done that twice each. Gayle did that 18 times in his overall T20 career, and the next best is seven for Abhishek.

128 - Abhishek has hit 128 sixes in all T20s in 2026, the third-most for anyone in a calendar year, only behind Nicholas Pooran’s 170 in 2025 and Gayle’s 135 in 2015.

18.13 - The Indian opening pair of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek went at 18.13 an over (133 in 7.1 overs), and that is now the highest run-rate for any century opening stand for a full-member side in T20Is.
