New Zealand Beat India In Final T20I As Glenn Phillips Sets New Batting Record

New Zealand beat India by seven wickets in the fifth T20I in Hamilton, with Tim Seifert scoring 93 and Glenn Phillips making 65 not out. India still won the five-match series 3-2, while Phillips set a bilateral T20I record.

New Zealand Beat India In Final T20I As Glenn Phillips Sets New Batting Record

New Zealand finished their five-match T20I series against India with a convincing seven-wicket victory in Hamilton on November 1, but the visitors walked away with the series trophy after winning the first three matches. Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips produced a commanding batting display to chase down India's 192-run target in just 18 overs at Seddon Park.

New Zealand reached 195/3, winning with 12 balls to spare. Seifert narrowly missed his maiden T20I century, scoring 93 off 50 deliveries, while Phillips remained unbeaten on 65 from 38 balls to complete the chase.

The result gave New Zealand back-to-back victories after India had established a 3-0 lead earlier in the series. The hosts' final two wins, however, provided a strong finish ahead of the upcoming ODI leg.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer Rescue India After Early Collapse

After New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner elected to field, India struggled to establish themselves in the opening overs. Adam Milne removed Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson cheaply, leaving the visitors at 19/2.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer then rebuilt the innings with an explosive 93-run partnership off just 43 balls. Kishan scored 61 from 32 deliveries, hitting five fours and five sixes, while Iyer contributed 50 off 23 balls, including three fours and four sixes.

Naman Dhir added a useful 33 from 23 balls, and Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 22 off 17 deliveries. However, India lost wickets towards the end and finished at 191/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Milne was New Zealand's standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 19 runs. Nathan Smith and Blair Tickner picked up two wickets each.

Tim Seifert's 93 and Glenn Phillips' Unbeaten 65 Seal New Zealand's Win

New Zealand's chase began with the early dismissal of Finn Allen, but Seifert quickly took control. The opener attacked India's bowling and brought up his half-century in 34 balls. He found an important partner in Daryl Mitchell, who scored 29 from 16 deliveries, before joining forces with Phillips. Their 86-run partnership put New Zealand firmly in control.

Seifert eventually fell for 93, caught on the edge of a maiden T20I century after being bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy. Phillips ensured there were no further complications, finishing unbeaten on 65 as New Zealand reached the target comfortably.

Glenn Phillips Sets Men's Bilateral T20I Series Record

Phillips' performance also brought a significant individual milestone. He finished the five-match series with 341 runs, surpassing Phil Salt's previous record of 331 for the most runs in a men's bilateral T20I series. The New Zealand batter's consistency across the series made him one of its standout performers.
