Sam Darnold's interception awareness questioned in Seahawks' MNF loss to Bears

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold appeared completely oblivious to throwing an interception, casually jogging off the field while the play was still unfolding during Monday Night Football's matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Darnold has endured a torrid season, racking up nine interceptions in just eight games, with frustrated fans clamoring for either Drew Lock or Jalen Milroe to take the reins under center.

As the Seahawks desperately attempted a fourth-quarter comeback, Darnold's pass was tipped by defensive lineman James Lynch, who hauled it in on the way down. Rather than positioning himself to make the tackle, Darnold simply continued trotting off the field - a bewildering lapse that added to growing concerns about the struggling signal-caller.

A second interception was thrown by Darnold, though it was nullified following a defensive penalty.

The gaffe sparked widespread ridicule across social media. NFL analyst Warren Sharp posted, "Sam Darnold consistently has some of the worst awareness in the NFL; watch him even after the interception.", reports the Mirror US.

One disgruntled fan fumed, "Sam Darnold has zero mobility or awareness. Please bench this guy, he clearly has no ability to get the ball down the field. JSN saves this guy every game... it's embarrassing."

A third critic declared, "Sam Darnold needs to get benched; he's so bad, man. no awareness and cannot throw a ball accurately to save his life!" The Seahawks found it difficult to establish their ground attack in support of Darnold, as running backs Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price each fell short of 30 yards rushing.

Seattle's newly appointed offensive coordinator, Brian Fluery, has faced mounting scrutiny from Seahawks supporters, unable to replicate the success achieved last season under former OC Klint Kubiak.

Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba remains a bright spot for the Seahawks, positioned to make franchise history as the team's first wideout to record a 2,000-yard receiving campaign. However, Darnold has struggled to distribute targets effectively among the team's other pass catchers.

The Seahawks have already turned to Lock this season, who delivered a solid performance in their victory against the Arizona Cardinals during Week 2 when Darnold was sidelined. Lock also saw significant action in their dominant Week 1 triumph over the New England Patriots.

Following Lock's injury this week, former Alabama Crimson Tide standout Jalen Milroe was elevated to backup quarterback, with a portion of Seattle's fanbase eager to see him get playing time.
