German side FC Koln have their eye on Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha as they seek a new striker in the January transfer window.
The Bundesliga club are expecting a busy winter window as they look to strengthen their squad, and cover for injuries in their squad.
Sport BILD explain it is likely to be anything but a quiet season for the club. While they are offering mixed performances on the pitch – with pressure growing on coach René Wagner – they also have work to do off it.
They are currently ‘grappling with significant injury concerns’ that will have to be addressed in the January transfer window.
Director of football Thomas Kessler is likely to be a busy man in the coming months.
He’s already working on January transfers to help the club avoid relegation. He has at least three recruitment tasks to address.

At the top of the list of priorities is finding a new striker. Kessler is already ‘urgently searching’ for this player.
Recent signing Thijs Dallinga is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season with a torn cruciate ligament. A replacement will have to be found. At this moment in time, the club are focusing primarily on the Premier League.
And their attention is particularly on Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha. He has emerged as a potential candidate in recent weeks.
Sport Witness reported earlier this month how Nmecha was on Koln’s transfer wish list. That report explained that he would be seen as a coup signing for the German club.
The question is what kind of deal they could get done. Nmecha’s current deal at Elland Road expires next summer. So, Leeds are very unlikely to sanction any kind of loan deal, unless it includes an obligation to buy.
That’s something for the two sides to work out. But this is the second time Nmecha has been directly named as a striker target in Germany. And Koln’s need for a replacement means they are likely to move as quickly as possible in January.
