Man Utd’s ‘biggest ever flop’ finds new club after months of being a free agent in Spanish third division
Man Utd’s ‘biggest ever flop’ finds new club after months of being a free agent in Spanish third division

Since the turn of the century, Manchester United have made some questionable signings, with the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson seeing this prove to be a real problem.

This summer’s recruitment for the Red Devils has not been well received by anyone around the club.

Michael Carrick and his squad spoke throughout the summer about needing more recruits, while Lisandro Martinez complained bitterly after the club’s loss to Como about the lack of quality that had been signed.

However, one of the club’s biggest flops has found a new club after several months without one, as he is set to join a team in the Spanish third division.

Manchester United’s ‘biggest ever flop’ finds new club

Ferguson made his fair share of terrible signings during his time in charge of the club, despite leading Man United to incredible success, domestically and on the continent.

Infamously, he brought Juan Sebastian Veron, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, and David Bellion to Old Trafford. However, none of them were deemed the biggest flop to join the club, after ESPN conducted a survey with fans.

It was confirmed in this poll that Bebe was the biggest flop to represent the Red Devils.

Ferguson signed Bebe from Vitoria de Guimaraes for a fee reported to be around £7.4 million, beating Real Madrid and Benfica to his signing in August 2010.

He finally left Man United for Benfica after four disappointing years in England, making only seven appearances.

Bebe would take a while to rebuild his career as it would require him to move to La Liga, where he impressed for both Rayo Vallecano and Eibar.

Now, after months without a club, after leaving UD Ibiza at the end of last season, he has made the move to CD Teruel, who are bottom of the Spanish third division.

They will be hopeful that the Cape Verde international can have a significant impact to help them maintain their status in the division, as after 10 matches they have only secured six points.

Bebe’s career in Spain

The 36-year-old has enjoyed a great career in Spain, after departing major clubs like Man United and Benfica.

Since leaving the Portuguese giants, he has spent the rest of his career in Spain, playing across several divisions for six different clubs.

Bebe has made 162 appearances in La Liga for both Rayo Vallecano and Eibar, while also playing in the Segunda Division on 83 occasions.

Across his career in Spain, he has scored on 46 occasions across all competitions, while also providing 33 assists. While he helped Rayo Vallecano lift the Segunda Division in 2018 to return to La Liga.

Now CD Teruel will be hopeful he can add to this and save their status as a Spanish third division side.
