Nombe got on the end of an Aaron Collins cross after 81 minutes to head home in front of the almost 1,000 Dons fans.
And it was the striker who took their adulation at the final whistle.
“Yeah, it did feel a little bit like Hollywood,” said Warne. “The only part that wasn’t Hollywood is he got subbed straight away. So that’s the mean part. I’m like the bad guy.
“But he deserves a goal for all his play. I’ve asked him to stay between the posts and he got his goal.
“He works tirelessly for the team, and he didn’t need a goal but he wanted one. I’m really pleased for him.”
It was also a first league success on the road for the Dons, and that is something Warne wants to build on.
He said: “We’ve got to try and back it up for two home games now, which if all of a sudden you can get maximum points from, you suddenly start edging up the table.
“That’s what we want to do. We work hard as a group, the players and staff, everyone, whether we win or we lose.
“I thought we did enough to win. In fairness, I don’t think we’ve played a lot less than we did against Blackpool, but it’s always down to moments.
“To score in front of the fans like that was a pretty fitting way to win the game.”
After a fine 3-0 win in midweek over Plymouth, Stevenage manager Alex Revell was unhappy that his team could not find the same level of performance.
“It was a horrible game, to be honest,” said the Boro boss. “It was always going to be won by a mistake or a set piece and was a game that lacked quality, really.
“We can look at the conditions but we played so well on Tuesday and those levels meant the team almost picked itself.
“And we didn’t get to those levels here. I’ve said it many, many times; you have to earn the right to win games, and we didn’t show what we showed [against Plymouth].
“No two games are the same and the opposition has changed. They’re very direct and the ball wasn’t on the floor a lot.
“But I just thought we ended up playing the way that they wanted us to play. We played into their hands a little bit and we’ve lost the game. I’m bitterly disappointed to be honest.”
