Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse unveils renovated weighing room

The new facilities were opened ahead of racing at the course's Spooktacular Family Day fixture, with jockey Murray Dodd cutting the ribbon.

He was joined by fellow Welsh jockeys and clerk of the course Lily Harris for the ceremony, which took place shortly before racing began.

Work started immediately after Bangor-on-Dee's previous fixture on September 8, giving the team less than seven weeks to complete the project.

The aim of the work was to create a more modern environment for jockeys, valets, officials and others who use the facilities.

Changes include a new valet working area outside the changing rooms, which is equally accessible from both the female and male changing rooms.

Jockeys now also have a communal area for resting and eating away from the changing rooms.

Additional private changing and shower facilities have also been provided within the changing rooms.

The work has been carried out within the footprint of the existing facilities.

Ms Harris said: "We started straight after our last fixture on September 8, literally the next day, so it's been a large project to cram into the gap.

"It was full steam ahead for everyone and huge credit must go to the maintenance team and the contractors, they've done a great job.

"We've kept within the existing footprint and we're very proud of it.

"It looks great. Hopefully everyone will think the same."

The unveiling took place as Bangor-on-Dee hosted its Spooktacular Family Day.

The six-race card began at 1.46pm and concluded at 4.18pm, with Mount Vines, Kellyhill Financial Planning and Weatherby's among the local businesses sponsoring races during the day.

Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is now looking ahead to its flagship fixture on November 11, which will feature a Listed mares' chase.

That will be followed by the Festive Meeting on November 28 and Virgin Bet Christmas Jumper Day on December 11.

Tickets for the upcoming meetings are available through the Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse website.
