The 2026 NFL season may only be seven weeks old, but one franchise's campaign is already being written off due to recent poor showings.

The New York Jets suffered their fifth loss of the season on Sunday as they fell 28-25 to AFC East rivals, the Miami Dolphins. The game was deemed a winnable one beforehand as the Dolphins were winless this season before heading to MetLife Stadium.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was already under immense pressure coming into the 2026 campaign as he was only able to steer the franchise to three wins last season.

The lack of direction and poor levels shown by the Jets in Glenn's first season in charge left many stunned that he was afforded a chance to rectify things this season. Despite attaining Geno Smith as his new starting quarterback for this season, little has changed on the field to bring any optimism among the Jets fanbase.

Glenn was accused of yet more poor in-game management after Sunday's divisional loss, as he chose to not use any of his allocated three time-outs before half-time. The Dolphins extended their lead to two scores with a rushing touchdown from quarterback Malik Wills just seconds remaining before the interval, leaving New York virtually no time to respond.

NFL Team Underperforming Badly During Key Period of Games

In the 24 games Glenn has overseen in New York, his team have shockingly been outscored 107-6 in the final two minutes of first halves.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, was highly critical of the Jets following another showing of poor clock management on Sunday. The Super Bowl winning coach told NBC's Sunday Night Football coverage: "If I were them, I would do (the) two-minute (drill) every day of my life until further notice."

Tomlin has naturally been linked to a return to coaching in the NFL as franchises inevitably struggle in the league and rumors swirl about potential head coach changes for numerous teams.

Fans Turn on NFL Team Owner Over Awful Performances

Fans have also begun to turn on owner Woody Johnson for continuing to persist with Glenn.

"Woody Johnson can no longer talk himself into keeping a historically bad head coach," declared one fan.

"Woody Johnson is a parasite without comparison," raged another, citing the team's lack of progress under their owner.

A third blamed Johnson for loading too much responsibillity onto Glenn: "Woody Johnson set up Aaron Glenn to fail when he told him he had to coach and run the defense."

"As long as Woody Johnson owns the Jets they will continue to be awful," insisted a final post.

Brian T. Smith of talkSPORT called for the Jets owner to replace Glenn with Tomlin with nothing salvageable this year for the AFC East team.

"The Jets haven't produced a winning record since 2015, while owner Woody Johnson and his estimated net worth of $10 billion has burned through quarterback after quarterback — including Aaron Rodgers — and coach after coach."

"It's another wasted era for long-suffering Jets fans. It's another coaching miss for Johnson, who's better off asking Tomlin how much money it's going to take to get the former Super Bowl winner off TV and onto New York's sideline in 2027."

Sunday's loss to Miami was ultimately a very frustrating one for the Jets as their schedule includes a number of tough games for the remainder of the season.

Glenn's men have to take on AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills, twice, while games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and the league's sole remaining unbeaten team, the Minnesota Vikings, await down the line.
