Michael Carrick appears to be on borrowed time at Manchester United in the wake of their heavy Champions League defeat against Como. The Red Devils were thrashed 4-1 by their Italian counterparts on Wednesday night, putting even more pressure on Carrick, who was only appointed permanently in the summer. United have only won two games in all competitions since he took charge, and his tactics were called into question by Bruno Fernandes after the final whistle against Como.

It leaves Carrick facing an uphill battle to save his job at Old Trafford, with this weekend's result against Bournemouth likely to be crucial in deciding his future.

Another defeat could spell the end of the road for the 45-year-old and a number of potential replacements have already emerged.

The likes of Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe have been linked with the United job in the event Carrick is relieved of his duties.
