Elisa Longo Borghini made Italian cycling history once again by claiming the national time trial title at the 2026 Italian Championships. The UAE Team L'IMAD rider dominated the women’s elite event, held on Saturday in Piasco, and extended her record tally of national titles in the discipline, further cementing her status as one of Italian cycling’s leading figures.
The Piedmont native covered the 19.7-kilometre course in 23 minutes and 15 seconds, averaging 50.839 km/h. Her commanding ride secured a clear victory over her rivals and added another success to a palmarès that continues to grow season after season.
With this win, Longo Borghini now has eight Italian elite time trial titles. She had previously won the championship in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, extending a historic record she already held outright.
The victory is also her seventh of the 2026 season and her first since winning the Italian road race championship last June. The UAE Team ADQ rider has once again shown her ability to dominate against the clock and remain a major presence on the international calendar.

Alessia Vigilia was Longo Borghini’s closest challenger, finishing second, 54 seconds behind the winner. The Uno-X Mobility rider took silver in a race where the champion opened up a significant gap despite the relatively short course. Vigilia finished ahead of the other podium contenders.
Third place went to Letizia Borghesi of AG Insurance-Soudal Team, who crossed the line 1 minute and 3 seconds behind Longo Borghini. The Italian completed a podium whose top three places were clearly separated. Vittoria Bussi of Team Essere finished fourth, 2 minutes and 1 second back, while Carmen Moser of Horizon Cycling Club-Team 1971 took fifth, 3 minutes and 10 seconds behind.
The results confirmed Longo Borghini’s dominance and underlined her outstanding record in the discipline. Her consistency at the national championships has helped her build a record that will be difficult to match, with eight titles won over 12 years. Her victory in Piasco further strengthens her standing as a leading figure in Italian cycling, in both one-day races and major stage races.
