Tom Brady may now have business ties to the Las Vegas Raiders as a minority owner and broadcasting duties with FOX, but his latest appearance in Foxborough reminded New England Patriots fans where his heart remains.
Brady made an appearance Saturday for former teammate Rob Gronkowski’s induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame. The former quarterback, who won six Super Bowls with New England, traveled to New England ahead of the Patriots’ game against the Green Bay Packers, which he is set to call for FOX. It will be his first time calling a Patriots game since joining the network in 2024.
His visit also came amid online speculation about possible tension with head coach Mike Vrabel following the coach’s recent comments about seeing Brady again.
Vrabel made headlines this week when he was asked whether he was looking forward to catching up with Brady, who was returning to New England as a FOX broadcaster. The Patriots coach responded with a dry joke, saying he was “contractually” required to catch up with the former quarterback.
“I’m sure it’ll be a Zoom,” Vrabel said. “I’m sure they won’t show up here. I’m sure it will be on Zoom. Yep, there you go. So yep, contractually I’ll be talking to him, and I’m sure I’ll see him at Gronk’s induction on Saturday.”
Those remarks drew attention since Brady had previously made it clear that he wasn’t necessarily rooting for the Patriots in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks. Speaking on the “Let’s Go!” podcast with Jim Gray in February, he said he simply wanted to watch a competitive game rather than take sides.
“I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one,” Brady told Gray. “May the best team win.”
Those comments, along with Vrabel’s joke this week, fueled speculation about where Brady’s loyalties lie. But Patriots fans weren’t buying the idea that the seven-time Super Bowl champion could completely separate himself from the franchise where he spent the first 20 seasons of his NFL career.
One moment from Gronkowski’s induction ceremony gave the fanbase more reason to believe that. The “Savage Boston” account shared a video of Brady watching the tight end’s highlight reels before the ceremony Saturday. Brady appeared absorbed in the footage, laughing as he relived some of their memorable moments together in New England.
“You want to tell me that Tom Brady doesn’t care?? I think the ‘no dog in the fight’ Brady is a fake. This is the real Brady,” the account wrote.
Many Patriots fans seemed to agree with that take.
“1000%, he lives for this (expletive). He just has to say no dog in the fight because he respects where he’s at now,” one fan wrote.
“The ‘no dog in the fight’ was because he was actively recruiting Klint (Kubiak) to come to the Raiders. I don’t get how people don’t understand this,” a second user added.
Another video circulating showed Brady chatting and laughing with Gronkowski and Vrabel during the ceremony.
For some fans, these clips showed that Brady still has a strong connection to New England.
“He loves it here. He would give anything to be an owner of the Patriots instead of the Raiders. It’s a shame we haven’t made that happen,” one user remarked.
“He’s always a Patriot. He just fakes it because he has a share in the Raiders. He loves New England and always will. He won six Bowls, man,” another fan wrote.
The 5-3 Patriots enter Sunday’s matchup looking to keep their season on track against a 5-3 Packers team. New England ranks No. 11 with a PFN Offense Impact Score of 75.7, while Green Bay ranks No. 18 with a 72.9 grade.
