And another…The Nick Woltemade starting stats for Juventus say it all

It was 1 September 2026 when Nick Woltemade moved to Juventus on loan from Newcastle United for the duration of the 2026-27 season.

It then got all quite bizarre.

Nick Woltemade only starting one competitive match at Juventus in his first six weeks at the club.

Nick Woltemade having to wait eight weeks for his first start in a Serie A match.

Nick Woltemade made the scapegoat by Italian media and others for the poor start to the Juventus league season as they won only three of seven Serie A matches, none of which the Newcastle United loan star started. Work that one out!

Juventus have now played ten Serie A matches, the latest three seeing the Turin club win two and lose one.

Nick Woltemade started two of those and was dropped back to the bench for the middle one.

Any guesses for which one he didn’t start?

Yes, the last eight days saw Juventus win 2-0 away at Lecce and 2-0 at home against Napoli last night, both with Nick Woltemade starting. The one in between was a 2-0 defeat away at lower half of the table Genoa and Nick Woltemade only brought off the bench when Juventus were losing and set for defeat.

It is almost as though there is a pattern forming…

Juventus 2026-27 record in all competitions
Played 13 Won 7 Drawn 3 Lost 3

Juventus 2026-27 record with Nick Woltemade starting
Played 5 Won 4 Drawn 1 Lost 0

Juventus 2026-27 record with Nick Woltemade not starting
Played 8 Won 3 Drawn 2 Lost 3

Nick Woltemade has scored in all three Europa League matches for Juventus this season that he’s started and got one assist.

Big Nick hasn’t scored in his two Serie A starts but Juventus have won both and kept clean sheers in a couple of 2-0 wins.

Nick Woltemade is an unselfish team player and after last night’s 2-0 win over Napoli which saw Juventus leapfrog them, this is what Goal reported: ‘Nick Woltemade provided a physical presence up front, though he didn’t record a shot on target. His primary contribution was his hold-up play and occupying the Napoli centre-backs, allowing the late-arriving midfielders to find space in the final third.’

It had been ridiculous the way Italian media wanted to blame the Newcastle United loan player for the early Juventus league form. Blaming somebody who wasn’t been given a chance! No surprise to see the pathetic English media lazily and blindly repeating that line taken by their Italian counterparts.

Hopefully we will now see Nick Woltemade getting regular starts for Juventus in both Europe and Serie A. A successful loan season to help progress a striker who had made a very limited number of starts at top league level in Germany before joining Newcastle United. United would then have the choice of looking to get Big Nick back into the Newcastle team, or alternatively getting a very healthy transfer fee to help finance other recruitment.
