Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Dominik Szoboszlai should play as a number eight in a 4-3-3 system for the Reds — though that is not how Andoni Iraola tends to set up his side.
Szoboszlai has outlined previously how Iraola sets up with a number six, a number eight and a number 10. Most often, it has been either Alexis Mac Allister or Ryan Gravenberch deepest, with the Hungarian just ahead and Florian Wirtz as the playmaker.
Carragher, though, believes that Szoboszlai doesn't perfectly fit into the system as things stand. Instead, he is more suited to how Jurgen Klopp, the manager who signed him, played.
"He's an eight in a 4-3-3," Carragher wrote on social media. "If he plays right in a 4-2-3-1, it means we have three wingers on the bench, and this manager loves wingers.
"In this manager's system, it’s the 10 so he can press and not lose the balance of the team and shoot as he’s closer to the goal."
Szoboszlai is likely to start against Fenerbahce in the Champions League today. He has been a key man this term after being the best player under Arne Slot last season.
"Where I played most is the eight, yes," Szoboszlai told reporters last weekend when asked about his position in the Liverpool side.
"Where (Iraola) wants me to play from now on, you have to ask him. In the six, he might ask me different stuff, and as a 10, he might ask me different stuff than as an eight.
"I only know before the game what I’m going to play. We all know only before the game so from there is only one and half hours to discuss with him the stuff he wants to do in the game and how he wants you to play.
"It's hard to say (what my best position is) because there are games where we have the ball more, so I like to have the ball more as a six, getting the ball from Virgil (van Dijk) and doing stuff from there.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"As a 10, I think I can also be dangerous, and as an eight. Wherever he puts me, I try to do my best."
Liverpool takes on Fenerbahce in the Champions League today, and has Crystal Palace away in the Premier League on Sunday. After that, there is another international break.
Szoboszlai returned from the last set of Hungary fixtures with an injury that he returned too quickly from. However, he is now fully fit again and in contention to start.
