Ruben Amorim slammed AC Milan's lacklustre display against Ferencvaros in the Europa League, saying they are "not ready to be competitive" on two fronts.
Lenny Joseph scored a second-half double to secure Ferencvaros, who finished with 10 men after Bamidele Yusuf was sent off in the 77th minute, a stunning 2-0 victory over Milan at San Siro.
Milan struggled to match the pace of Ferencavos in the first half, and Joseph could have had multiple goals before the break if not for Lorenzo Torriani.
However, the goalkeeper – on his first Milan start due to Mike Maignan's suspension – made an error that led to the first goal before Amorim's side were caught on the counter for the second.
Milan have lost three of the first four seasonal matches in major European competition for only the second time in their history, after 2021-22 (D1 L3 in that case).
"There is no explanation. There is nothing I can say, especially about the first half," Amorim told Sky Sport Italia.
"I don't remember us playing any other first-half performances like that. This is about ambition, concentration. We gifted opportunities, made stupid errors. We were not prepared to play football.
"Quite simply, we were not ready to go from the derby to this competition. When you play with the Milan jersey, you have a responsibility, and you cannot turn up like this.
"Probably, I didn't do enough to make sure the team was ready.
"We are not ready to be competitive on two fronts. We've got to work on our approach and the way we view football. There are no excuses. There is nothing that I can say.
"I usually have a lot to say to defend my team, but I really don't. We must be humble and try to understand what happened."

Milan finished the game with 15 shots to Ferencvaros' 12, but while they accumulated 1.2 expected goals (xG) and just two efforts on target, the visitors got eight on target and finished with 3.1 xG.
In the first half, Milan had just two off-target shots and while a half-time triple substitution, introducing Christian Pulisic, Mario Gila and derby hero Diego Moreira, looked to have boosted them, they were soon caught out.
While Amorim had aired strong views in his post-match interview, he doubled down in his press conference, seemingly warning that his tenure could come to an early end if they did not improve.
"I'm simply saying what I see, because you're not stupid, and I don't want to fool anyone," he said.
"I have every reason to defend the team, so when I speak like this, I take responsibility first and foremost, because the team is my responsibility.
"But we cannot afford to do something like this, especially in the first half, in front of our fans, at our home. We can't do it.
"We have to improve, otherwise it's over."
Milan sit outside the play-off places in the Europa League table in 28th, with just three points from four games so far. Ferencvaros, meanwhile, maintained their 100% record and sit third.
