The FA Cup is upon us.
Although it is extremely unlikely that the Hatters will make the 2026 FA Cup Final, we can all have our dreams, can’t we?
Our first-round opponents, this afternoon, are the very same team we faced at this stage of the competition last season, Forest Green Rovers.
Quite what the odds were on that happening I will leave you to work out.
Last season, it was the Hatters that triumphed, beating Forest Green Rovers, 4-3, in an entertaining encounter.
I would happily accept a similar result today, but without conceding so many goals.
Ahead of the aptly named REFLO FA Cup tie, speculation has been rife as to who Jack Wilshere will select for the game.
Will he take the opportunity to utilise some of those who could well be called fringe players, or will he stick with the strongest side possible, acknowledging, at his pre-match press conference, that our recent success is down to playing a relatively unchanged side?
Our recent poll, on that very subject matter, showed that only 44% wanted to see Jack select his strongest side possible whereas the remaining 56% are happy for the gaffer to make numerous changes.
Well, we are about to find out what route Jack has gone down by now being able to reveal the confirmed team sheets.
Starting with Luton Town:
Team – Keeley, Ashby, Andersen, Johnston, Johnson, Gore, Clark, Richards, Mendel, Lawrence, Marshall
Subs – Shea, Walsh, Wells, Fox, Baptiste, Chigozie, Cole, Palmer, Gawel
Continuing with our visitors Forest Green Rovers:
Team – Ross, Rydel, Mabete, McIntyre, Abrefa, Campbell, Kelly, Clark, Ifeanyi, Etaluku, Grigg
Subs – Pagel, Kircough, Ajiyi, Pemberton, Kengni, Ewing, Gbadehan, Mellor, Osudu
As for those officiating, look no further:
Referee – Jamie Robinson
Assistant Referee – TBC
Assistant Referee – TBC
Fourth Official – TBC
The tie has all the ingredients to be an interesting encounter, a case of David v Goliath, but I have every confidence that Luton Town will be in the draw, for the 2nd round, scheduled to be made on Monday.
I am going for a 3-1 victory for the Hatters.
But is anyone else prepared to put their heads above the parapet and predict the final score?
If so, please feel free to drop your prediction into the comment facility beneath this article.
