Leeds United are planning for the January window, and some reports claim Daniel Farke wants to raid Tottenham and sign an England international – five years after Victor Orta wanted him.
The feeling in West Yorkshire is one of realisation. After a wonderful start to the season, Leeds have gone five Premier League games without a win, and some new inspiration is needed from somewhere.

Perhaps that inspiration could arrive in January as Leeds look to keep themselves above the relegation parapet and achieve mid-table consolidation. Leeds are eyeing an England star to help them do that.
According to a report from Fussball News, Leeds are one of three clubs looking to raid Tottenham for ex-Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. The England star is struggling for game time under Roberto De Zerbi.
Spurs spent the best part of £200m on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, while James Maddison is fit again. It has seen Gallagher plummet down the pecking order, starting only three Premier League games.
Leeds have options in the middle of the park. Anton Stach, Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka are first choice at the moment, with Ilia Gruev and Sean Longstaff in reserve. But Farke might want a better option.
Gallagher would certainly join as one of Leeds’ top-three midfielders if he were to join, but he is likely to be an expensive purchase given he only joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid for £34m in January 2026.
Gruev is out of contract next summer, but it is Gallagher’s aggression that will sit well with Leeds fans. Gallagher has averaged more tackles, ball recoveries and duels won per 90 minutes than Leeds’ options.
| Statistic | Gallagher | Stach | Tanaka | Ampadu |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minutes | 292 | 677 | 557 | 810 |
| Tackles attempted | 3.70 | 2.13 | 2.91 | 2.11 |
| Tackles won | 2.16 | 1.20 | 1.13 | 1.00 |
| Interceptions | 1.23 | 1.46 | 0.48 | 1.78 |
| Ball recoveries | 6.47 | 3.6 | 3.8 | 5.0 |
| Duels won | 8.63 | 6.38 | 4.69 | 4.11 |
Back in the summer of 2021, Leeds were in a similar position to their current status. Marcelo Bielsa had got Leeds promoted and then kept the Whites in the Premier League, finishing ninth in 2020-21.
Bielsa had warned the Leeds hierarchy that an overhaul was required, but only Dan James and Junior Firpo arrived at Elland Road that summer. However, reports say Leeds did try to sign more players.
According to Football London, Leeds and Victor Orta held talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for an up-and-coming Gallagher. But the midfielder moved to Crystal Palace instead, where he really impressed.
He scored eight goals and laid on five assists in 39 games for Palace, returning to Chelsea and then becoming captain. Chelsea and BlueCo were forced to sell him, as he represented pure profit.
Since leaving Chelsea, it is fair to say he has failed to find a club where he sees his long-term future, and his lack of game time at Spurs suggests he requires another move. Perhaps Leeds is the club for him.
