Honohan doesn't seem to be fancied at all, which is really surprising me given how highly he's been spoken about.
It's a concern that him, along with many of the summer signings 'don't seem to be fancied'. I'm not saying Ogbene and Oyegoke did much to enhance their prospects last night, but when they're kept on the fringes for much of the time and then suddenly thrust into the starting XI and expected to perform, it's a tough ask for them. They need regular games and starts.
Oyegoke had only started one of the previous seven matches, playing a grand total of 25 mins from the bench. He started eight times (and came off the bench seven times) in Serie A last season, but is not deemed good enough by the management to break into a lower Championship team.
It was Ogbene's first start since the West Ham game, where he was, in my opinion, our best player in that first half.. and then gets just – ironically – 25 mins of action.
And then there's Oloafe who was overlooked last night despite the desperate need of something to happen up top. Why sign a striker like him if you don't want to play him when we're desperate for a goal? Since scoring against Blackpool in the League Cup on August 25, he's played around 46 minutes.
Ladefoged had been used sparingly until just recently despite playing regularly for Vasteras throughout the summer (so match fitness wouldn't really have been much of an issue despite the gap between leaving them and joining us), while Konak only got his first start on October 17 despite arriving in mid-August.
Lord knows what Cohen and Shaw make of Melia and Wheatley as well; I can't see those two making much of an impact. And Callum Elder is only a bit-part player.
Thankfully they could see the quality Coubis possesses and he's been a regular since early September. You do have to wonder, though, whether it was one of our worst summer windows for some time, with only really three (Coubis, Ladefoged and Konak, although the latter has just had two mediocre performances) of the 10 new arrivals proving their worth at the minute.
