LAS VEGAS – Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani met the media Saturday after his win over Farman Hasanov at UFC Fight Night 292.
Lebosnoyani (12-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) finished Hasanov (5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to open up the main card at the Meta APEX. A cageside doctor called the fight off because of a gruesome slash above Hasanov’s left eye. It was Lebosnoyani’s first UFC finish.
“I didn't really have any like real expectations. I think that's very important when going into a fight. I was prepared for a lot of situations, but I went in there with no expectations and I think I'm grateful. The main thing that I was insecure about was his wrestling. Am I going to be able to defend his high-level wrestling? … I always expect the best version of my opponents to show up. I never underestimate anybody, so it's almost like a gift and a curse because during the camp, I'm very worried about it and I'm thinking about it a lot. But it leads me to being very prepared for the moment.”
"Once I defended his first takedown, I was like, ‘OK, I’ve got this.’ I felt his squeeze. Most of all, I need to remember that I'm good. I'm good – I can do this. I've beat some really good guys. This whole life journey for me is about slowly believing in myself and trusting in myself, and I think with each fight it just gains a little more and more and more.”
"(Jake Matthews) has been in the company for such a long time, and I want to continue proving that I belong, that I'm a contender, a prospect, whatever you want to call it. I think that he would be a good guy to really test myself against. … I want to continue to climb slowly, but surely – not take any unnecessary risks. .. If it's in my control, I'm just going to continually gradually climb in level of competition.”
