“My private life was a mess” – Berry van Peer eyes PDC return after a difficult period

Berry van Peer will make another attempt to win a PDC Tour Card. The 30-year-old Dutchman stepped back from darts early this year for personal reasons, but has since found the motivation to revive his career. At Q-School, the Brabander will try to earn his place back on the professional circuit.

Van Peer endured an especially difficult start to 2026. After deciding to play less darts for a while, he also faced a tough period in his personal life. In an interview with BN DeStem, the former Tour Card holder spoke candidly about the problems he faced.

“The first few months of this year, my personal life was a mess. There’s no other way to put it. You’re not thinking about darts then, either. I just didn’t have the motivation,” Van Peer said.

From dartitis to the World Championship

Van Peer made a name for himself in darts at a young age. In 2017, he qualified for the Grand Slam of Darts, where his match against Gary Anderson drew attention around the world. However, it had little to do with his performance.

The Dutchman suffered from dartitis during the match, making it extremely difficult for him to release his darts. Footage of his struggle at the oche was seen around the world.

Berry van Peer will compete at Q-School in January

Despite that harrowing experience, Van Peer managed to continue his career. In the years that followed, he achieved several notable results, and in 2024 he made his debut at the World Darts Championship.

Early in 2026, however, he decided to take a step back. He lacked the motivation to focus fully on his darts career.

Another attempt at Q-School

Van Peer has now got back on track. Last summer, he competed in several darts tournaments and represented the Netherlands in international team events.

That return has prompted him to enter Q-School again, the qualifying tournament where players can earn a PDC Tour Card.

Van Peer knows from experience how difficult it is to qualify through the tournament. He also believes the standard has risen further in recent years.

“Only a handful of the hundreds of participants win a Tour Card, so I know the odds are slim. And averages are much higher these days.”
