Rob Edwards has spoken out about a potential return to management amid reports linking West Ham United with the former Wolves, Middlesbrough and Luton Town coach.

Rumours that Hammers News put to the club this week, as questions are being asked once again of Nuno Espirito Santo following Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat by potential promotion rivals Southampton.

Edwards is currently without a club, following a testing seven-month spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers last season. His impressive track record in the second tier has inevitably seen the Telford-born 43-year-old mentioned as a potential option for a West Ham United side who are yet to consistently get out of second-tier this term.

What are your thoughts on Nuno? How confident are you that he's the man to lead West Ham back up? 🤔 He continues to split opinion…

Edwards left Middlesbrough in second place when he was appointed by Wolves in November 2025. He also became the first manager in Luton’s history to guide the Hatters to the Premier League in 2023.

West Ham United hit back at claims Nuno Espirito Santo is facing the chop

Yet, Hammers News have been told by a source at the London Stadium that suggestions of Edwards replacing Nuno are ‘nonsense’.

The current incumbent still has the backing of majority owner Daniel Kretinsky, despite the fact that West Ham are currently on track to record 84 points this term. No team has won the league with fewer than that since Tony Mowbray’s West Brom finished top with 81 in 2007/08.

Speaking to Tony Pulis and Mick McCarthy on The Manager’s podcast, meanwhile, Edwards insists that he is in no rush to jump back in anyway. Though he is ‘ready’ should the right opportunity arise.

“I’ve enjoyed the time [off],” Edwards says. “After [leaving] Luton, it was different, and I needed a break. You just need it after the roller coaster – it takes a lot out of you. I wasn’t feeling very well after Luton.

“But this time, I was working on holiday and I was ready to go, so I feel good and I feel ready. That old cliche; it’s got to be right, this next one.”

Edwards reportedly rejected the advances of Burnley this week. The Clarets are facing up to the very real threat of successive relegations, and fired Nicky Hayen following Saturday’s 4-1 collapse at Lincoln City.

“There have been one or two things which have been nice. The phone’s been ringing, but I just need to wait,” adds Edwards. “Sacking season comes around middle of October, end of October, then just after Christmas and March when everybody starts to panic. They’re the three times [jobs tend to come up]. So we’ll see.

“It’s hard to talk about outside because you rely on someone’s misfortune, but we all know that when you’re in the job. To answer your question before, though, I’ve missed elements of it, but not everything.”

Ex-Burnley boss and three-time Hammer of the Year Scott Parker is available, too, having remained out of the game since his departure from Turf Moor in the spring. Craig Bellamy’s name often does the rounds regarding both the Clarets and the Hammers, though he is under contract with the Welsh national team.

Right now, though, Nuno is under no immediate pressure from the West Ham hierarchy. Though doubts will inevitably begin to rise if the pre-season promotion favourites drop more points against West Brom, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City before the November international break.
