When it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers and trade rumors, very few players on their roster have been linked to speculation as much as Alex Highsmith has. And this new report has given us an update on how the Steelers are handling any trade noise.

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the Steelers have continued to receive trade calls on Alex Highsmith, but the team isn't interested in trading their star edge rusher. He added that Highsmith could see more trade interest as the deadline nears.

“Other teams have inquired about trading for Highsmith since last year, and the Steelers’ answer has always been no,” Pelissero wrote. “But they currently have a logjam at edge rusher, with T.J. Watt turning back the clock with his stellar performance this season at age 32, while younger players Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer have part-time roles. Highsmith is still in his prime at age 29 and figures to be the subject of more calls leading up to the deadline.”

Highsmith, who was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, quickly cemented himself as a premier pass rusher, recording 350 tackles, 69 tackles for loss, 48 sacks, and 10 forced fumbles during his seven-year NFL career.

Highsmith was tied to trade rumors last year and this offseason, largely in part to Nick Herbig's emergence as a starting-caliber edge rusher. But it appears the Steelers are still set on keeping their outside linebacker intact, at least through the 2026 season.
