Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham Hotspur secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League with a gutsy triumph against rivals Chelsea. It marks just Tottenham's second win at Stamford Bridge in 36 years, with De Zerbi's men up to 12th in the table.
It was a dismal first-half that matched the weather in west London. Not that Tottenham did much wrong; rather, they just didn't do much at all. Omar Marmoush had the visitors' best chance of the half, but his tame strike was easily saved by the Chelsea shot-stopper. Meanwhile, Mathys Tel saw a driven effort saved, and Sandro Tonali flashed an effort over the crossbar.
Chelsea certainly started the second half the brighter of the two teams, and Pedro Neto should've done better when he fired a shot straight down Antonin Kinsky's throat. In the end, the Tottenham opener came at a time when Chelsea were establishing control of the game. It was a freakish goal that spawned from an inswinging corner from Mateus Fernandes.
Seeing out the game became much easier for Spurs when Cole Palmer was sent off for a second bookable offence. The points were secured late on when Tel netted a stunning solo goal to top off a wonderful week for Tottenham. Here, Express Sport hand out player ratings to the Tottenham players...
Antonin Kinsky - 6
Made a couple of comfortable saves on either side of the half-time break. A much quieter night at the office than he probably imagined.
Archie Gray - 6
Battled hard and was asked to chip in at right-back and left-back as well.
Micky van de Ven - 6
Wasn't really tested by any of the Chelsea attackers while it was 11v11, and looked comfortable throughout the match.
Jan Paul van Hecke - 6
Was alive to the cross and put a challenge on the Chelsea goalkeeper, which ultimately led to an opening goal. Much like his countryman Micky van de Ven, he had a comfortable evening.
Andy Robertson - 6
Was up and down the left-hand side and gave as good as he got. Ran out of steam in the second half.
Sandro Tonali - 6
Better than his earlier showings this season, but still failed to properly impact the match.
Mateus Fernandes - 7
One of his better performances in a Spurs shirt. Starting to show why Tottenham were so keen to bring him to the club. Put in the cross for the corner that led to the visitors' goal.
James Maddison - 6
Can't catch a break. So good in the Monday night win over Coventry, but wasn't able to play more than 50 minutes in the west London rain. Had been positive before that.
Mathys Tel - 8
Might've done more with an effort after being played in behind during the first half, but made no mistake with a stunning solo goal late on. He picked the ball up in his own half, drove forwards and squeezed home from the edge of the box.
Omar Marmoush - 5
Marked down because he had a golden opportunity to net the opening goal. Nowhere near clinical enough, despite his confidence-boosting goal on Monday night.
Mohammed Kudus - 8
Probably the best Tottenham player on the pitch. What a miss he's been during his extended absence from the team.
Substitutes:
Conor Gallagher - 6
An enforced change but gave the Chelsea midfield something to think about.
Pedro Porro - 6
Unusually wasteful with his crosses but otherwise solid.
Stretched the Chelsea defence more than Marmoush following the second-half substitution.
Ben Davies - N/A
A late change.
