Vasco da Gama initiate contact to sign Leeds United player

Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri has attracted interest from Brazil, with Vasco da Gama reportedly making contact with his representatives ahead of 2027.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Torino, where things haven’t exactly gone smoothly. He’s playing regularly, but his performances have come under criticism in Italy.

Now, a return to Brazil could be on the cards. Vasco are looking for a goalkeeper for next season, and Perri is one of the names they’re considering.

Vasco make first move for Leeds goalkeeper

According to Brazilian outlet SuperVasco, which relays information from Vasco-focused insider Corujão Vascaíno, the Rio de Janeiro club have already approached Perri’s entourage.

The idea was to find out the conditions for a potential transfer. There’s no suggestion of an offer to Leeds or formal negotiations at this stage.

Vasco are assessing several goalkeeping options as they plan their squad for 2027. Perri has made that shortlist, although the club haven’t publicly confirmed their interest.

There’s also a little bit of history here. The goalkeeper previously played for Botafogo, Vasco’s local rivals, before moving to Lyon in January 2024.

His reputation in Brazil remains considerable, even if his European career has been rather more complicated.

Torino struggles could give Leeds another decision to make

Lucas Perri

Perri joined Torino on a season-long loan in August, with the Italian side securing an option to buy. That clause was reportedly set at €16m (£13.4m), meaning Leeds already have a potential route to selling him permanently next summer.

Whether Torino actually take it is becoming a rather interesting question. The Brazilian has kept his starting place, but mistakes have continued to attract attention. And it’s hardly the sort of form that makes a €16m (£13.4m) investment look especially appealing. But some reports from Italy says it might happen.

For Leeds, there’s an obvious financial issue here. Perri arrived from Lyon in 2025 with the expectation of becoming their first-choice goalkeeper, only to lose his place under Daniel Farke.

The move to Italy was supposed to offer a fresh start and, ideally, lead to a permanent departure. Vasco’s reported interest now offers another possibility, although plenty would need sorting out.

The Brazilian season begins early in 2027, while Perri’s loan agreement runs until the end of the European campaign. Any move before then would therefore involve an additional complication. And there’s still no indication of what Vasco would actually be prepared to pay.

For now, it’s an initial enquiry. But with Torino yet to convince everyone they’ll exercise their purchase option, Leeds may well be pleased to see another club exploring the situation.
