Stourbridge golf club plan to build new fence following fire damage

Stourbridge Golf Club lost part of its boundary hedgerow in the blaze and has now submitted plans to Dudley Council to install around 640 metres of fencing along its boundary.

Chris Darby, marketing director at Stourbridge Golf Club, said: "Stourbridge Golf Club has applied to Dudley Council planners to erect a boundary fence to replace the hedgerow that was destroyed by the fires.

"This fencing is 640 metres long and is required to protect the golf club's boundary from intrusion but primarily to prevent potential hazards to vehicles and pedestrians on Racecourse Lane."

The club hopes the new fence will allow it to fully reopen its 18-hole course, currently 16 holes are open to players after several re-openings following the fires.

Mr Darby said: "We are confident that the council will approve our application based on pre-planning meetings regarding the height of the fence to be installed.

"The new fence will allow our club to reopen fully back to 18 holes of golf."

The club is aiming to complete the installation by early December, pending approval.

The course also recently saw the re-opening of the public right of way paths that run through the course, two months on from the tragic fires.

Mr Darby added: "We are hoping that the planning application is agreed as soon as possible as the golf club is targeting early December for completion of the installation."
