Liverpool Scouted Weekly: Ranking the best and worst Reds players by loan campaigns

This Liverpool Scouted Weekly ranks the best and worst of the Reds' current crop of young players, highlighted by a bright spark in Spain and a frustrating move to League One

Liverpool doesn't have the loan army the club once deployed. In the past decade alone, the Reds have seen players like Harry Wilson, Jarrell Quansah, Conor Bradley, Fabio Carvalho, Tyler Morton, Nico Williams, Rhian Brewster, and Lewis Koumas all thrive in the EFL.

The club's current crop of young players leaves a little more to be desired, but Liverpool still have some young talent in the pipeline, notably Kieran Morrison, on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

This Liverpool Scouted Weekly rates the three best and worst Reds loan players from the start of the campaign. Note: weight is given to the level of expectation from the loan.

Best loans

3) Keyrol Figueroa (Striker), Port Vale: The 20-year-old Honduran international found game time hard to come by both with Liverpool and with loan side Port Vale. Enter the September international break, and Figeroe scored his first international goal in a meeting against Jamaica.

Then came three goals in four for Port Vale, the first coming against Gillingham in League Two. “I needed to show people why I’m worth playing," he stated. Figueroa has scored off the bench in his last two, one against the Manchester City U21S and once against Rochdale.

2) Armin Pesci (Goalkeeper), TSV Hartberg: The 21-year-old Hungarian joined Liverpool for almost €2 million in 2025 from Puskas Akademia. The Reds sent him on loan to Austrian side TSV Hartberg, and he's found regular game time.

Ifeanyi Ndukwe

Pesci has started all 11 league games for the side, which sit in fifth and in the league's Championship Round spots. Hartberg have finished in the top five just once in the last seven seasons. Pesci has conceded 19 in his 11 starts.

1) Ifeanyi Ndukwe (Center-back), Levante: The 18-year-old Austrian international couldn't secure a work permit to play in England this season and needed just one league appearance abroad to qualify. Ndukwe, a preseason star for Andoni Iraola in the United States, is already up to seven with Levante.

A candidate for a January recall if there's an injury crisis, Ndukwe scored a shocking 100th-minute equalizer for his side in October. “He is a player who has great potential, I think. If he has a normal development, he can be one of the best in the world in his position," his coach Luis Castro said.

Worst Loans

3) Amara Nallo (Center-back), HJK: The 19-year-old center-back regularly wore the captain's armband in Liverpool UEFA Youth League contests before his 2024 debut for the club, a Champions League contest against PSV where he earned a red card in just four minutes.

Nallo started three games for HJK in Finland before returning to Liverpool after suffering a lower-leg injury. He hasn't featured since late August.

2) Kieran Morrison (Attacking Midfielder), Sheffield Wednesday: The best Liverpool academy product to move on loan was the 19-year-old Morrison, who joined League One side Sheffield Wednesday after breaking into the Reds' first team last season.

He has managed three assists in 12 appearances, but Morris only has four starts. Why? Sheffield Wednesday have had quite the window, landing attacking talents like Al Al-Hamadi (from Stoke), Davis Keillor-Dunn (from Wrexham), Mason Burstow (ex-Chelsea), Louie Barry (ex-Aston Villa), and Jayden Heskey (Manchester City loan) in attacking positions.

1) Harvey Elliott (Wing), Valencia: Elliott's 2025/26 loan at Aston Villa couldn't have possibly gone any worse, as the Villains intentionally played him fewer than 10 times to avoid activating his permanent option to buy.

His 2026/27 loan is even worse. Valencia have sacked manager Carlos Corberán, and Elliott has more red cards (1) than goals (0) or starts (0).
